Question:
I just finished the 666 Truth sermon and I understand Pastor Doug to say that 666 is the identifying mark of the beast but that is all that number means and that his followers would not be receiving a "666" mark but some other mark. In reading Rev. 13:16-18 ... so that noone could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.... How could this be anything but the number 666 as the identifying mark? Just wondering... and confused... Thank you!

Answer:

Rev. 14:18 says: "Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."

In Matthew Henry's Commentary, Vol. III, p. 1065, note on Rev. 13:18, as to the practice of representing names by numbers, he says: "It was a method practiced among the ancients, to denote names by numbers."

Latin is the official language of the Catholic Church. The pope, in Catholic theology, stands for the whole church. One of his titles is said to be Vicarius Filii Dei, "Vicar of the Son of God." This has been verified in their own literature. (Our Sunday Visitor, Apr. 18, 1915) This title has been said to be on the triple tiara that is used for the coronation of the pope. But more convincing evidence is taken from the first page of Pope John Paul II's book, "Crossing the Threshold of Hope" where he says himself that the "Vicar of Christ" is the title of the pope.

Taking the letters out of this title which are used as Roman numerals, we have V, 5; I, 1; C, 100; I, 1; The rest of the letters had a value of zero. (Originally, in Latin there was no U. The V was always used where we would now put a U). V, 5, I, 1, C,100, U, 5; I, 1; L, 50; I, 1; I, 1; D, 500; I, 1. Adding these numbers together, we have 666.

The fact that the title Vicarius Filii Dei equals 666 in numerical values is not a conclusive proof that the pope is the antichrist since there are many other names that might coincidentally add up to 666. However, it is interesting that the pope's title does fulfill this criterion, along with all of the following identifying points:

A serious study of the biblical description of antichrist will show:

1. It will rise to be a great power after the fall of the pagan Roman empire (after 476 A.D.), (Daniel 7:7, 8)
2. It will be a geographically small nation ("little horn") (Daniel 7:8)
3. It will rule over many people, nations and tongues (it will be universal) (Revelation 17:15)
4. It will be headquartered in the city of seven hills (Rome is located on seven hills.) (Revelation 17:9)
5. It will be a religio-political entity?a political city-state that is ruled by a priest-king. (Revelation 17:3?A beast symbolizes political power, and a woman symbolizes a religious power)
6. Its priest-king will make great and blasphemous claims. (Daniel 7:25)
7. It will claim authority over all kings (Revelation 14:8)
8. It will claim to have power to change the times and laws God set as its mark of authority. (Daniel 7:25).
9. It will be an apostate church that makes the nations drink her cup of apostate doctrine. (Revelation 17:4)
10. It will be a "mother" church with apostate daughters coming from her. (Revelation 17:5)
11. It will be a persecuting power, killing the faithful saints of Jesus Christ as heretics. (Revelation 17:6)
12. It will hold power and authority for 1260 years following the fall of pagan Rome. (Daniel 7:25).
13. It will suffer a deadly wound that will end 1260 years of dominance and persecution, and when it is revived after the deadly wound all the world will wonder at its revival. (Revelation 13:3)

Please understand that it is the system and teachings that we see as defective, and that nothing we say here is directed towards the Catholic members themselves.

Even though the mark may not be externally visible, there will be something in the life that can be seen. The mark represents compliance with the laws of the beast--agreeing to it with the mind, (forehead) and then acting upon it (hand). If you do not comply with the laws of the beast you cannot buy or sell. As it was in the days of Esther where the people were penalized for not bowing down to Haman, there will be similar religious laws in the last days. Those laws may incorporate the use of some kind of card or computer tracking system, but the mark itself is not an external mark.

Question:
Is the 666 mark in effect now? or around the corner?

Answer:
Brad,

We do not teach that anyone has the mark of the beast now. I would like to assure you that there are many sincere Christians who will be saved even though they have not kept Saturday as the Sabbath. Many of them do not know the truth about the true day of worship, but are living up to all the light that they have. God will not hold them accountable for something that they do not know, and He has the wisdom to judge each case individually. James 4:17 says, “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”

We do say that, according to prophecy, just before Christ comes, the day of worship will become a huge worldwide issue and people will be called to either show their allegiance to man’s laws or God’s. It is essential that we do live up to the light that we know, and once truth is revealed we need to follow it no matter what the cost. There is a special message given in Revelation to come out of Babylon (false systems of worship where truth is mixed with error) in the last days. I believe it is crucial to take this warning seriously, and to study carefully to know that every teaching we follow is from Scripture. I would ask that you keep an open mind and prayerfully consider this as you watch world events unfold.

Prayerfully yours,

Keith

Question:
Hank Hanegraaff in his book "the Apocalypse Code", states that the end times have already happened after Jesus' death, the Antichrist was Nero and the second coming of Christ was his returning from the dead after three days. I know the Bible uses stories to illustrate the point but did the 1/3 of the earth get destroyed in Nero's time?

Answer:
There are three different ways of interpreting the prophecies in Revelation. One is to put everything way off into the future. That way we do not have to deal with it now. This is called the "futurist" view. One is to put everything in the past. Apparently your author is in this class, which is called the "preterist" view. Again, this view is structured so that we do not have to deal with the prophecies of Revelation. No, 1/3 of the Earth did not get destroyed in Nero's time. The third view says that the prophecies of Revelation talk to particular points of history, both now, and in the future. As such, it is called the Historicist view. This is the view used at Amazing Facts.
